California Punk Concert Riot: Video Footage, Photos Available Online

March 7, 2006

California's NBC4-TV is reporting that more than 40 businesses were damaged Saturday night (March 4) when a riot erupted at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino after police responded to a report of a stabbing at a punk rock concert. About 1,500 concert goers were attending the British Invasion 2K6, featuring GBH and the ADICTS, among other bands. Several people were injured, two police cars destroyed, and rioters vandalized storefronts from Mill Street to Rialto Avenue. [Watch an NBC4-TV video report at this location.]

"It was crazy," said businessowner Tony Martinez. "It was like the L.A. riots all over again."

Police said rioting concertgoers used wood, rocks, concrete and a large trash container to break store windows.

The disturbance began at about 8 p.m. Police initially responded to a report of a stabbing at the concert.

Nearly 200 officers responded when the violence escalated.

"The crowd began throwing rocks and bottles at my officers," said Officer Rick Lindsay of the San Bernardino Police Department. "Four of my officers suffered minor injuries. The crowd destroyed two police cars."

At least 15 people were arrested.
